This book is roughly 7/8" thick including covers.

The book cover is a dark gray Harmatan goatskin leather blind stamped with lettering on the spine.
 
The cover features an antique metal printing plate used to print labels for ice cream containers.  This plate is permanently attached to the cover and sealed with clear sealer.

The cover also has a permanently-attached metal ice cream tasting spoon.  They used these thin metal spoons years ago instead of little plastic or wooden spoons.  This has also been sealed with clear sealer.

Please note that this nice "open surface" leather is lovely to look and and hold, but it IS prone to getting permanent marks on it over time from oil, fingerprints, water, pens, etc.  Some care should be taken with handling books bound in this kind of leather if you want it to stay looking pristine.  However, some people really like the marks that accumulate on a cover over years of use and feel it adds to the character of the book.
