Small Personal Journal with Initials I received a request for this book from a graphic artist who had very clear ideas about how she wanted the cover to look. It involved two colors in a very nice layout, but it was something more suited to being printed or silkscreened on a cover than to what I do. The design was modified a bit and her original cover design ended up being the first printed page (title page) in the book. However, the intials she wanted to use were made into a large die and stamped on the cover of this small book. This book has 200 pages of off-white unlined paper. The pages are 8" tall by 7.5" wide. The cover is dark brown goatskin leather with raised panels front and back to help set off the initials. This book has gold swirl marbled endpapers and a semi-sheer swirl-print flysheet over the title page which echoes the swirls in the title page design. The large die for the front cover (around 5" square in size) cost around $140. Almost as much as the book itself, but it was the only way to get the lovely elegant lettering she wanted on the front cover. A book like this would cost around $160 not including the die made for the cover lettering. |
