Scroll  Motif  Clamshell  Box  and  Three-Book  Set

This project started out as a guest book for a 25-year wedding anniversary celebration.  My customer commissioned this as a gift for her parents.  Ultimately, it was decided that there should also be a photo album for photos from the anniversary party.  Finally, the customer realized that her parent's old cling-page wedding album was not the best way to store their original wedding photoraphs (many of the old cling-page albums contain acid that slowly eats away at and discolors the photographs mounted on them and it's a good idea to get the photos out of there if at all possible!).  So a second album was created to be their new wedding album housing their original wedding photos.  The client's mom liked purple, and the invitations to the surprise anniversary party were done in purple with swirls in the background.  Based on the look of the invitations, two custom swirl dies were created for stamping on the covers of the books and the clamshell box that holds the entire set.  Each book is 11" square.  The guest book has 75 pages and the albums each have 22 pages (leaving 44 page sides for mounting photos).  Each of the books in this set is purple vellum book cloth stamped with swirls in purple stamping foil.  Lettering was added using moveable metal type, hot foil stamping, and silver stamping foil.  Each title was accented with a single swirl in silver.  The lettering used on these books is an old font which I have only a limited amount of called "Lydian Cursive".  The clamshell box is covered entirely in purple vellum bookcloth.  The front and spine were stamped freehand multiple times with the scroll designs to form a freeform scroll pattern.  A Lydian Cursive title was also added to the front and spine of the box.  The inside of the box features a dedication letter outlined with silver paper.  These books made a nice set and a were a lovely and archival way to store both the original wedding photos, and the photos and messages from the 25th anniversary celebration.

A project like this would cost around $650.
