Screenplay  Production Book

This was an interesting and different project from a customer who had written a screenplay.  He wanted a large book where each page of the script could be glued to a 2-page spread and the blank area around the script could be filled with notes and drawings about how that particular scene should be filmed.  The pages had to be heavy enough for the script pages to be glued on and I needed to add spacers to the spine to account for the thickness of those pages being added.  So this was almost like a giant scrapbook.  However, the paper also had to be smooth enough to write on.  I ended up using a slightly off-white heavyweight archival sketch paper.  The overall size of this book was 12"x19".  That's me holding it just so you can get a sense of the scale of it.  The "globe in the crosshairs" design on the cover corresponds to the theme of the screenplay.  The crosshairs wrap around to the back.  The crosshairs were stamped in silver foil and the globe design was carved into the board.  The title was stamped in silver foil on the cover and spine using moveable metal type.  I also added the black marbled endpapers with silver swirls.  There was a substantial paper cost in this book.  As well as the time spent carving the globe design and just dealing with such a large cover and page size.  The largest size I will make a cover is now 16"x12"...huge books like this one led to me putting some limit on the size of the book since there is a limit to the size that some of the clamps I use will take.

A book like this would cost around $550.
