Wedding Guest Book with Rhinestone Buckle and Wide White Ribbon This customer contacted me wanting something along the lines of a Tiffany-themed guest book. She wanted the pale blue/green Tiffany color for the cover along with a rhinestone buckle and white ribbon. I was unable to find the blue/green color she wanted either in book cloth or book leather, so we had to change the plan a bit. I also told her that if she could find me the rhinestone buckle she wanted, I'd make the book. She found one! She also sent the ribbon for the front cover. I love this sort of collaboration because the customer is choosing exactly what she wants and it saves me a great deal of time when I do not have to go searching for something I'm unsure I can find (like a rhinestone buckle!). I was able to locate a vellum sheet to use for endpapers that is close to the blue/green color my customer was searching for. It was tricky to figure out how to permanently attach the buckle to the front (without smashing it flat in any piece of machinery) and how to attach the wide ribbon in a permanent and archival way without using any wet glue that might soak through...but I eventually figured it out. The ribbon goes across the front and back covers and is set into a slightly recessed area. The lettering on the front cover was done with moveable metal serif type in silver. This type is really not created to do all upper case lettering with the first letter in a larger size. I did it this way to mimic the lettering used by the Tiffany company, but it is not something I am usually willing to try (since the metal type is just not made to do this). I think this book is definitely a one-of-a-kind. The spine has silver lettering with a stamped silver square meant to reflect the square buckle on the front. The book itself is made in an album construction so photos can be mounted on the pages. It has 40 pages with room for photos to be mounted on one side of every page only (with guest comments to be written on the opposite side). The pages are off-white and are 7" tall by 11" wide. I'm very happy with the results of this book, as I think it came as close as possible to what the customer wanted. If I ever made a book like this again, it would cost around $410. |
