Rustic Flexible Cover Wedding Guest Book with Raw Leather Edges This book was commissioned by a woman who wanted to create a guest book for some friends of hers who were getting married. They really wanted a rough and rustic book that looked somewhat worn. While I really don't distress my covers (that happens naturally over time), I wanted to find something that was a little more rustic that what I usually make. I love this leather. It is heavy cowhide with a mottled brown pattern and a bit of texture. But it is so heavy that it really cannot be wrapped around cover boards. The solution in this case was to make a flexible cover with the raw, unfinished leather edge making up the edges of the cover. This book as 100 unlined off-white pages that are 11" tall by 8.5" wide. The cover is stamped very simply with the couple's names, wedding date, and a hand-draw Irish claddagh design that I have in stock. The only downside to this type of cover is that I can only put lettering on the front; not the spine since it would be extremely difficult to center and line up correctly. Right now, this type of rustic leather is only available in dark brown pictured here and an even darker brown I have yet to use. A book like this would cost around $150. |
