Quonset  Hut  Guest Book

A book and box set with this complexity would cost approximately $700.

This book was created as a gift for a friend who was renovating an old World War II era quonset hut to use as a rental guest house in Michigan.  This book was to be used as a guest book for the house and it duplicated the façade of the renovated metal hut on the front cover.  (The owner of the building added the funky Greek columns and double screen door to the outside during the rennovation.)  5 types of leather were used in making this raised cover design and there is real metal screen in the screen door.  The blue leather of the sky is stamped with gold foil stars on the front and back of this book.  This book was an unusual "landscape" size so it has blank, unlined pages.  A custom clamshell box was made for the book with a recessed arc design on the front that echoes the shape of the quonset hut, along with the town where it is located printed in gold foil (see bottom photo). The box is covered with the same mottled blue cowhide that was used on the book cover as well as eggshell linen bookcloth on the box edges.
