Owl  Island  Vacation  Home  Guest  Book

This customer wanted a guest book for his vacation home on a small island in Canada.  He sent me a photo of the house which sits right on the water with a pine-tree covered hill behind it.  I re-created the photo as a stylized raised design on a cover made of dark brown goatskin leather.  This leather is thick, so the raised shapes could not be super-detailed.  This book has 100 unlined pages that are 11" wide by 8" tall.  There are raised cords on the spine as well as some blind stamped lettering on the front cover.  The raised design of the horizon line wraps around to the back cover.
I turned the photo of this customer's home into a line drawing and sent it off to have the image made into a die (a raised image on a metal block).  This die was heated and then pressed into the leather embossing an image of the house into the leather in the correct spot on the island.
I'm happy that a book I made gets to spend its life in such an amazing place!

A book like this would cost around $385 (doing a raised design on a thick leather cover like this is a challenge) PLUS the cost of the die used to stamp the image of the house on the front cover.  In this case, the die cost around $65.
