Artist's Sketchbook with Raised Ouroboros Design This sketchbook was made for an artist who liked to paint with very dry paints (wet paint on a book page would not work well). My customer and I sent paper samples back and forth before deciding that, in this case, the customer would buy the paper that she knew would work for her painting, send it to me, and I'd make it into a book. This artist did a painting of an ouroboros (symbol of infinity or constant re-creation) where the head of the serpent was rendered as an anatomically-correct heart. After much discussion, we decided the design on the book cover should be an intricate high-relief design where the serpent had scales, a heart for a head, and a glass eye. The cover is red pigskin leather. This book has pages that are . This number of pages made a much thicker book because of the heavier sketchpaper that was used. There is a small recessed infinity symbol on the back cover as well as some gold lettering on the spine. The majority of time in this book was spent carving the cover design. My customer loved the book though and ended up ordering a box to protect it. Click here to see the Eye of Horus box made to hold this book. That's me holding the book at the bottom of this page so that you can get a sense of the size. A book like this would cost around $750. |
