Flexible Cover Raw-Edged Leather Journal with Mayan Symbol This is a flexible-cover journal made with a very thick, rustic leather. The leather is so thick that the edges cannot be turned in, therefore the leather edges are left raw. This is a distressed cowhide leather with a beautiful mottled surface. It has a nice, dull finish which is perfect for blind stamping (stamping a decoration into the leather without using a foil or pigment color). This journal was created to record the spiritual journey of my customer and features a Mayan Hunab Ku symbol (which appears in references to the "one and only God" of the people of the Yucatan in 16th century writings but does not appear in any pre-conquest inscriptions in Maya writing...the symbol itself seems to have murky origins, but it is a beautiful design). A title in gold lettering was added above the symbol along with a tan linen ribbon page marker. Though flexible-cover books lack some of the durability of a hardcover book, they are nice to hold and use. It should be pointed out that it is exceeding difficult to center any lettering on the spine of a book made in this way which is why the spine on this book is left blank. This book has 200 pages that are 8.5"x11". A book like this would cost around $175 PLUS the cost of the metal die used to stamp the Hunab Ku symbol. A die of this size would cost around $80. |
