This book was created for a very patient customer.  We exchanged many many e-mails about this book and how it should look.  The main issue was the color of the leather.  This customer wanted raised designs on the cover so it was necessary to use real leather, but he also wanted a darker, slightly blue-green color.  With the help of a very courteous salesperson, I finally found the right leather at Hewit & Sons in Aberdeen, Scotland.  This was a lovely, grade 1 piece of Cheiftain goatskin and the leather alone cost $350.  My customer wanted this book to have a rustic look.  So the pages consist of a parchment-look paper that is a bit heavier and suited to calligraphy with an ink pen.  My customer also wanted an aged look to the cover of this book.  He told me how he planned to stain it with ink and in the end, I asked if he wouldn't mind letting me have a try at "aging" it with ink.  I like the finished mottled effect.  This book was completed with some lovely marbled endpapers.  This book is very large; about 4" thick and it weighs roughly 20 pounds.  The raised symbols on the front reflect my customer's spiritual beliefs.  This book is definitely large enough for him to record a lifetime of wisdom.

A book like this would cost around $800.
