Raised Gladiola Clamshell Box
This clamshell box was made for a customer whose father needed a special place to keep photographs of his late wife. He always gave his wife gladiola boquets (which became an inside joke between the two of them) and therefore, the front was embellished with a raised stem of gladiola. This box has interior dimensions of 8" wide by 10" tall by 2" deep to hold a variety of photo sizes. The cover is burgundy pigskin leather and the inside of the box is lined with marbled paper. The edges of the box are covered in dark brown linen book cloth. A clamshell box is usually a "drop spine" box, but in this case, the spine is permanently attached to the edges of the lower tray so that the photos would stay contained within the box. The raised gladiola design is accented with copper pigment. Copper lettering is hot foil stamped on the cover including the quote "A trip to nostalgia now and then is good for the soul." The box was presented on what would have been the couple's anniversary.
