Coat of Arms Debating Society Minutes Book This book was custom made for a boys' school in Ireland who needed a new blank book for their debating society minutes. Apparently, other binders would not discuss this project with them! I don't know why not. I was happy to make them the book that they were looking for. They specifically wanted 300 pages. So this was a rather thick book. They chose my 8.5 inch by 11 inch lined paper for the pages which is off-white printed with light brown lines. The cover is Italia Calf waxed with museum-quality Renaissance wax to help seal and protect the leather. The school's coat of arms on the front of the book was its most important feature. The customer e-mailed me an image of the coat of arms which I turned into black and white artwork. A large metal die was then made of the artwork so that the resulting image could be stamped on the book with gold foil. The printing on the spine was accomplished using moveable metal type and hot foil stamping with gold foil. This particular leather gave me a very lovely, clean stamp with the gold foil. I include a colophon page at the back of all the books I make. It describes the materials used in the construction of the book. In this case, a dedication was also added on this page. A book like this would cost around $210 (NOT including the cost of the large metal die made to print the coat of arms on the front cover). |
