Clifton House Guest Book This book was created as a guest book for the lovely Clifton House Bed & Breakfast in Cincinnati, Ohio. The design was based on the complex Victorian leaded glass transom window over the front door (see photo below). This leaded glass design was cut from thin board by hand and then covered with wine Sokoto goatskin that had been pared down very thin to allow the leather to take the shape of the raised design underneath. That panel was then inset into a burgundy pigskin leather cover. The keystone that appears in the window trim was added, raised, under the pigskin leather. The title was stamped in pewter stamping foil using moveable metal type. The title appears again on the spine of the book. On the back of the book, the recessed keystone design is repeated above the address of the bed & breakfast; also stamped in pewter. This is a very long, thin book with completely blank pages and textured gray endpapers. It is especially important in a guest book like this that will be laying out all the time that it lay open completely flat, so handsewing the pages in signatures is essential. A book like this would cost around $350. |
