Red Leather 3/4 Binding Book of Bright Ideas This book was made for a customer who wanted a blank book as a gift for her friend who really loved the novel "The Book of Bright Ideas". She wanted it to look like the book in the waistband of the girl on the cover image of the real "Book of Bright Ideas" by Sandra Kring. Working from a photo of that original cover, I created a traditional 3/4 bound book in red pigskin leather and red vellum bookcloth with raised cords lots of foil stamping on the spine that at least came close to the little image on the front cover of the published novel. This book is 8" tall by 6" wide with 240 pages (about 1.5" thick). It also has a red ribbon page marker and very colorful red marbled endpapers. This is called a 3/4 binding because the spine and corners are done in leather while the center panels of the front and back covers are done in book cloth (some books have marbled paper in those areas). A 1/4 would mean that only the spine was leather (no corners). Though small, this book has a lot of detail and quite a bit of time spent adding all of the gold foil to the spine. A book like this would cost around $275. This is the image I was working from...that little book in the girl's waistband. |
