Brown  Leather  Journal  with  Blind  Stamped  Symbol

This journal was completely designed by my customer.  He sent me a great mock-up/illustration of what he wanted rendered in Photoshop and I worked to get as close to his design as possible.  This journal has 180 pages that are 6" wide by 9" tall.  The book has a tan linen page marker and is covered with dark brown goatskin leather.  The cover has a blind embossed symbol...half on the front cover and half on the back cover.  In order to stamp the symbol on the cover, a large die was required.  Below is a photo of what a metal die looks like...it's the design created as a raised image on a metal block.  This block is then clamped, heated, and pressed into the leather of the cover.  The heat and pressure cause the leather to darken and this results in a very nice embossed design.  This book has raised cords on the spine and my customer's initials stamped between the cords in gold foil.  I was happy that the resulting book looked very close to the initial illustration he sent me.

A book like this would cost around $250 PLUS the cost of the metal die used to stamp the cover.  This was a relatively large die (around 5" square) that cost $130.
