Rebinding of 50th Anniversary Edition of Atlas Shrugged This is my second "Atlas Shrugged" binding and it is very different from the first one that appears further down the "gallery" page. This customer wanted me to re-bind the 50th anniversary edition of Atlas Shrugged and he wanted me to take the cover design from the dust jacket on the mass-produced book. I took the design of railroad tracks, a tunnel through a mountain, and circle of light from the oncoming train and re-created it as a raised design with a mountain range that continues from the front to the back cover. This book is covered with gorgeous gray Harmatan goatskin leather. It's expensive stuff, but it worked beautifully here. With these thicker leathers, I can do SOME raised designs, as long as they consist of basic shapes. This book also has raised cords on the spine, pewter accents, silver lettering (with a quote from the book on the back cover) and some blind-stamped circle-in-a-square decorations on the spine that recall the round light from the oncoming train on the front cover. I like the way it turned into a bit of an abstract design; but still "read-able". A book like this would cost around $410, partly due to the cost of the leather and the amount of lettering on the back cover. |
