This book was made for one of my longtime friends who changed careers in her mid 30's and decided to go after something she had always wanted to do.  I thought a decision like that deserved a journal where she could record the journey.  This book was made entirely out of scraps of Chieftain goatskin leather.  The rough, natural edge of the leather was left on the front cover (including the point of leather which had never been coated like the rest of the piece) while the back cover is made up of inlaid leather strips.  The hiking boot design was blind stamped into the leather using a metal die and Anita's name was blind stamped in the lower left corner of the back cover using moveable metal type.  The front edge of the front cover and the endpapers were both done with a handmade, mottled, brown and black paper.  For the front cover, the paper was waxed with museum-quality, archival, clear wax to help protect it from moisture.  This is a small book with blank pages; roughly 5" x 8.5".  This is truly one of a kind since I could never duplicate exactly the pieces of scrap leather used in making this cover.

A book like this would cost around $180.
